A one-bedroom new-build at Baltimore Wharf in Canary Wharf, handed over in the same developer-grade finish as every other apartment in the tower. The client asked for a full interior refurbishment to make it feel like nowhere else in the building.

The scheme layers mid-century warmth over the crisp new-build shell: statement furniture with real provenance, pattern and colour used deliberately rather than safely, and a richness more often found in period homes than Canary Wharf towers.

Burr walnut joinery runs floor to ceiling, wrapping the kitchen in one continuous grain. Against it sit a green veined marble splashback and worktop, brushed brass fittings, and olive velvet seating finished with fringe trim on fluted timber bases. A crane wallpaper anchors the lounge corner, carrying a quiet East Asian note of longevity, while herringbone parquet grounds the whole scheme.

Bespoke joinery does the heavy lifting throughout, turning the compact footprint into a place with proper storage and proper character, and proving a new-build one-bed need not feel generic.
