Designing Spaces that
Flow and Flourish

Designing Spaces that
Flow and Flourish

We're Alan and Sookie, and Meridian 88 is our studio. We work across high-end homes and boutique hospitality, based in London with projects running from Hackney to Hong Kong.

What we care about first is flow. Not as a mood word, but as a practical question: how light reaches a room, how the air moves, the walk from the front door to wherever you actually spend your time. That thinking comes from Feng Shui, which we treat as spatial methodology rather than folklore, and it shapes a plan long before we've chosen a single finish.

The way we work shows it. Before any design begins, we give clients two complete layout options for the same brief. It started on a family flat in Haggerston and it's now how we open every project, including a restaurant conversion in Chinatown. Two layouts force the real conversation: what you actually value, and the problems a single plan would have quietly hidden.

Alan trained in architecture and gravitates to pared-back, stone-led rooms. Sookie came through hotels and property, and brings antiques, Art Deco, and a sharper commercial eye. We're recognised by the BIID, and the contrast between us is the point rather than a compromise.

My background

Alan Cheng is a London interior designer and an Associate of the British Institute of Interior Design, with an architectural training behind him and a body of work spanning private homes, commercial interiors, and community spaces.

Trained in architecture at the Royal College of Art and the University of Nottingham, Alan brings a structural eye to interiors: how a space is planned, how it holds light, how people move through it before a single finish is chosen. Born and raised in Hong Kong, he draws on his heritage directly, using Feng Shui as spatial methodology rather than decoration, and treating it as a genuine point of difference in the London market.

His work also carries a rare fluency in accessible and inclusive design, shaped by years working with mainstream and SEND students in education. For residential and hospitality clients alike, that means spaces that work for everyone who uses them without ever looking as though accessibility was the point.

Alan has built internationally too, contributing to school projects in Cambodia and South Africa, hands-on work in demanding conditions that sharpened both his problem-solving and his belief that good design should reach further than the people who commission it.

What I do

Sookie Lin is a London interior designer with a taste for rooms that carry depth and history. She’s drawn to the layered and the characterful, antiques, Art Deco, mid-century modern, the confident use of colour, pattern, and texture, interiors with a point of view rather than blank restraint. She has delivered high-end residential projects across London, Cambridge, and Surrey.

Her eye was shaped early, growing up around her family’s hotel and real estate ventures in China, where she learned to read a building as something with a life and a story rather than a set of empty rooms. That upbringing gave her both a designer’s instinct and a rare commercial fluency, a sense of how a space should feel and what thoughtful design does to the way people value and use it. She holds a Master’s in Business Economics and a second in Corporate Finance, and spent several years in investment before design, a background that now sits quietly underneath the work rather than on top of it.

For residential and hospitality clients, Sookie brings the thing that’s hardest to find: genuine creative confidence, matched by an understanding of why a beautiful space is also a sound one.
